The comment about air-conditioning was off the mark though. Rafflesians pay for it. 15 bucks monthly if I remember correctly which probably covers most if not all the cost of the air-conditioners.
The stereotype of RI boys as nerds if way off too. The majority of Rafflesians I know study less than my friends from other schools. Neither are their sportsmen air heads. Given that RI gets more than 10 national golds every year, it must either be populated with many sportsmen admitted for their ability in sports alone, or Rafflesians are intelligent as well as talented sportsmen. Something few outsiders seem willing to give them credit for.

You just have to cross the border to have a look-see - while praying of course you car don't get stolen or broken into, your handbag or your gold necklace or jewelry don't get snatched or you get dragged by the thieves on motorbikes for three blocks while trying to hold on to said items in snatch or you get stopped by the police looking for kopi money. i am currently studying in a NEIGHBOURHOOD SCHOOL who has gradually achieved extremely commendable results in many consequtive 'o' lvl examinations, including this year.
We are comparable to many top schools in singapore, however, my seniors have not been given due credit, much less the school.
it is a pre-conceived notion that exam smarts are everything. i beg to differ. coming from raffles girls primary, i have seen both worlds equally and i do no like what i see becoming of the "elite". where they were once the street smart, they have become merely book smart, unable to react to real life situations and only good at answering exam questions.
so i ask, how exactly are we going to test if they will survive in the real world? an american newspaper, giving an overview on singaporeans stated that even though we score highest in the WORLD for math and science in junior high school and high school levels, the students we turn out are still not as creative and adaptable in the working society. now what does that tell us about ourselves, much less the elite...
