Mandate what cheebye mandate?

Wah so exciting this time. Especially the Potong Pasir and Hougang fight. $80 to $100 million fucking dollar and plus send Lau Goh go there also cannot help them win Chiam and Low Thia Khiang. People cannot always be win by send Big Gun and give money. People want your heart not just your hand. Aljunied that side is good example of what the new Singaporean want. Ang Mo Kio result also another big sign.

But fuck lah, you just see lor, Aljunied sure kena chop chop like Cheng San one. Almost 44% the people there choose Worker Party. Fuck care you put how many PAP minister down there. 44% of Aljunied don't mind lose one Overseas Minister and two small minister. What that tell you? People not happy. People want more. People want MP that can do thing for them. They heng in Aljunied still got the woman MP like Cynthia Pua do her work or else die. I have many friend in Aljunied and they tell me they never see the General before. So have a big minister as my MP for fuck?

And Ang Mo Kio is the best! All the time walkover until WP send their Kamakazee team there. Six no-experience young punk fight the Small Dragon and can win until 33% of the vote there! Lim Boon Heng got say 85% win for Small Lee right? Hahahahahaha!!!! Where is your 85% now? 70 fucking percent also dun have! Still can say got mandate and got new young voter support. Just kena fuck backside by six virgin, support ki lan ah! AMK the 66.13% cannot even beat the average Singapore 66.6% score. Mandate ki lan ah!

I heard the Cheng San that side got help a bit. Cheng San people still never forgive PAP for 1997. You can chase away their Tang Liang Hong. You can swallow their Cheng San put inside Ang Mo Kio. But you cannot take away the toolan in their heart. This 33% is their present to you. This 33% is Cheng San middle finger give to PAP.

Friend just told me they arrest Gomez. Dunno true or not. Nabei election over liao so can start to bully people. You just see lah, your life will go back the same hell like before.

Actually the most big loser is not Opposition. They actually improve a lot, almost every place they fight the percent increase, PAP percent go down. Even Talk Cock Ling and his Self Destroy Party also can get 20%, quite good liao. No, the most big loser is Goh Choke Tong who kena send to become PAP Suicide Man. Send him go to Potong Pasir and Hougang and die. At least the Worker Party Suicide 6 go with nothing, come back with some result. Lau Goh go with his name and his million of carrot, come back with the million of carrot push up his kar chng by the people who support Chiam and Low. Somemore dunno how come this election, Lau Goh say so many stupid thing, like say bad thing about Chiam even make Chiam wife cry. Lau Lee and Small Lee lend him the knife by send him go to PP and Hougang, but Lau Goh ownself poke his own stomach. Small Lee not just fix opposition, also fix Lau Goh I think. Hahahahahaha!!!!

The other big loser is the cheebye Singapore newspaper like PAP Times and Mediacocksucker TV station like Channel News of PAP Only. After this election, no people want to believe you now. The internet show you all as Big Gahmen Running Dog. Maybe the auntie and the old man still will read you and believe you. But the new generation not just will read you less and less, and watch you less and less, they will never believe you fucker again.

Maybe Lau Goh can start new party, the Last-Time PAP party! Hahahahahaha!!!

take alook at his blog.. haha.. the comments.. maturity yes he has.. but priority to place things? haha his own face and need to win among all his subjects.. or rather.. maturity.. hmm i dun think he has any of them le.. haha still using politics to say ppl? think about yourself boy.. u think whatever u think and say is so right? angry with us? or angry with yourself for not having done well? your priority for things was put wrongly.. even a child will know which comes first.. face or studies.. i guess u would gladly sacrifice your studies for these virtual face that you are gaining.. no need to use those things u have read in books to say ppl.. just to show ppl how mature u are about politics.. how u have read so much and now u know so much about SG the world and experience stuff.. cause to me now u are nothing but a big show off..

Hello Mr STARLANDLIU,

I am Oprah Winfrey and I would like to invite you to my show. You have quickly become the Internet's top 20 most repulsive character. Would you care to attend my show and let people know who you are? You will be famous and your beloved PAP will have an easier time accepting a celebrity such as yourself.

Regards,

starlandliu (what a fucking ah beng name) has shut down his blog. because i called him a racist (which he is. he said that the "brown skins" malays should be beaten up by the police because they create trouble). he said all that racist shit and then deleted the post. think his readers are stupid. what a fucking asswipe. i also told him that his grammar and spelling is soooo bad that he can only be the janitor of AJC (his dream school) and that he can only DREAM of entering NUS. so starlandliu, until you improve yr grammar and spelling, and go back to primary 1, then you can start talking about big people issues like politics. for now, shut the hell up. you are a lily-livered pussy! what a cock! support pap? those very same people you support are gonna haul your ass to courts for sedition you racists mofo! no brains, bad english, racist - this is what your treasured education system produces issit?? what a jackass. for now, starlandre.blogspot.com, is a free domain. cos the previous stinking piece of shit has vacated the place.

i think those opposition supporter jealous abt Starlandliu's talent. do you really need so many people to challenge him? that's the stupidity of a blind opposition suppporter! wake up and keep moving on rather than keep going through the GE. a lost is a lost and a win is a win, what to debate! no wonder you have no time upgrading yourself by spending all necessary time on this stuffs and blame all this to govt!

starlandliu: you should go brush up your english.

all: why argue with 17yr old? let him concentrate on his o-levels first, jc/poly then national service. let him complete his uni, work a few years and then talk to him again. =)

Reading your blogs is really an eye opening and can learn a lots from those good writers who posted their comments. The arguement was superb. i like the way Skye Bleu answer the ten questions posted by Starlandliu, great job. Anyway a good government is a goverment that take good care of its people, they in-charge of the people's money. No one government bring their own wealth to form the government. It is always the people cooperate with a good government to bring prosperity. To ensure staying as a good government there must be genuine observance and check in place and that is the opposition role. Our ruling party style is that the leader can tell they members to shut up but they can't tell the oppersition to shut up, that's why we need opposition. This is the rule of balance apply to nature.

Anonymous said...

What can I say, Standardliu's thinking is very much an example of all that has gone wrong in Siangpore. I remember when I was his age too and I used to think like him. Don't get me wrong, I love my country but it is also wrong to turn a blind eye to things that are wrong in the name of patriotism. At 17 it's easy to be idealistic and say that we should sacrifice for the sake of our nation. After all, who are we to complain about what the PAP has given us all these years right? Well wrong. Someone who loves his country should be willing to speak up when he sees something is going wrong. Just because we are no longer a third-world country does not mean all is well. We cannot measure ourselves on such simple standards simply because the world changes. The world will not wait for you and if your mind is so stuck in the past, you will not be work towards the best possible future.

I do not know Rockson except through reading his blog, but I must say what he writes strikes a chord with me. If you focus on his use of vulgarities and singlish, you are missing the real message behind what he is saying, and it is a very important message. It has reached a stage where we cannot just depend on the PAP's past reputation to lead us through the next step. Statistics wise, Sky Bleu has probably made as good an argument as I ever could so all respect to him.

I don't know if you will read this Standardliu, but all I can say is 'wake up'. It's good you have your point of view and a set a principles you abide by. But it is also good to take in all points of view. I can tell you that the hardest hit by the reality of the world will be people like you, who I can very much identify with.

After going through NS, the education system, and from observing people around me, you will know that the Government does not give two-hoots about how patriotic you are. If you fail anywhere along the way, be it in education or whatever, there is no compassion. You will be hung out to dry. It's easy to say 'suck it up', but when you go through it, it suddenly becomes a much heavier burden. Just because we can 'survive' it or just because it's a 'dog-eat-dog' world does not mean that it is right or that we should keep quiet about it. The comment about Lim Bo Seng was harsh, and definitely not made by someone who has army experience. To put it bluntly, NS (at least in my time) is two and a half years of THANKLESS time wasted. Yes wasted. Why? Because if you take out the point that you're doing a service to your country, the fact of the matter is that it puts you at least 2 years behind all your peers, and here I mean international peers. Having studied overseas, I know what a big disadvantage it is, especially if you're going back to work in Singapore where a person's professional shelf-life is so short. To top it off, what recognition do we get for our service? Do those NS pay increases affect those who have already ORDed? Lim Bo Seng is a war hero and all respect to him, but who gives all those people who have also given their time to the country their fair bit of recognition. If you've really read the classics, then you'll understand that loyalty is something that involves reciprocation. A gentleman has an onus of finding himself a worthy master before giving his complete loyalty.

If you are one of those elites born with a silver spoon in your mouth, then fair enough... you'll probably never experience what most Singaporeans go through. But if not, I hope that your process of 'experiencing' the harsh realities of life in Singapore will not be as hard as some have had.

if u guys remember, there was a coloured printed copy of the cctv on gomez case. the camera was in the election department...a government building but the time and date shown on the image was back dated sometime in 2005. what does that say?

can this be evidential proof to be used in court? can say sorry, we never adjust the time and date accordingly?

to me, when i read and saw that in the st, i think it was the most embarrassing thing...how would the world look at us?

we are well known in the world for the being one of the safest country in the world...based on the population and size of our country and if the country is has high crime rate, the government ought to be shot.

thus does this equate to a bigger pay check by the politicans for such a small dot in the world country as compared to the leaders of the big continents.

there's abundance of $$$ flowing within out country but never in our hands, no matter how hard we work...nkf holds a big bulk of it!

To train a soldier effectively for war, can never do it with the time frame of two years. Our NS was meant to control those youngs in the old days where many of them did not have the chance to complete middle or higher education, they became problem to the government and society. Now it has become something like a tool for our government, and a way to deter the youngs going oversea to study and stay put there. Our government knows that many people are not happy with certain policy but neither the government to let you have your free ways.
If the date and time of the picture in the Gomes's incidence was some mistakes, that clearly explain why he was off the hook. How lucky is Gomes !

Somebody said we may get corrupt gov if pap is no longer the ruling party one day.
I think I've the solution that can be applied to the past, present & future - Extradition Treaty with every nation on earth for political corruption but judgement by some form of independent parties.
History had shown that absolute power corrupts in whatever manner they are presented to the people
Somebody also quoted these words for thought- "the graveyards of the world are filled with indispensable people"....therefore proper systems, rules & regulations are more important than trying to get the perfect candidates.
As for who should rule..."the voters", the ruling party must remember the voters are the one who ultimately decide.
Lesson learned - To make them realise who is their creator, we must "manage" them properly.

Our system is difficult to understand; Our country import talent from other country, the reason said is shortage of our own. In today forum, you would notice so many letters written to tell Mindef allow deferment of NS for one of our very talented 17 years old musician to go oversea under special scholarship. What a cock up system, our leaders said we need and want our own talented people but the system work otherwise. Mindef do not have intelligent people to understand that a deferment with conditions for the boy to come back and serve NS should be granted and is sure the right thing to do. If the boy is from a poor family and few people notice his talent, not many people write to support the deferment, would this be a waste. Anyway we always believe we are world class.

alright, i'm sick of hearing this star-lan-diu bashing.

Although His comments are really critical and harsh, he's just a 17 year old doing his high school cert.
Very idealistic and nationalistic, carrying and worshipping the PAP's backside, looking down on poor people and the unfortunate.

Let him be whatever he wants because his 17 and legally, he's someone's else bitch, only his mum can scold and smack him for sing songing and pak chiu cheng :P

Once he's 18, in singapore it is 21, he is his own bitch, he'll realise, there is much more to life than just getting straight As, worshipping and carrying the PAP's backside, earning 1 million dollar peanuts and defending the establishment.

things that matter in the end are non materialistic, like

freedom, integrity, trust, self-worth, dignity, cultural rights, political and social space.

dear standardliu,

i m entering into my 40s...so far so good for me for i m self-sufficient, need not rely on the government for anything. however sadly to say, my profession makes confront with the harsh reality of live everyday, especially the low income group.

due to the educational background, they are not able to digest, analyse like we do...in fact they dun have the time and energy to do so as they would worry when will the power supply be cut off.

they want to sell their house to cash out some $$$ for emergencies since their wives or children need medical attention, but where will they reside, since they can't make the next purchase due to their income. there were so many changes in hdb policies which deter these pple from selling and buying at the same time...they got stuck with the situation.

i know many of these pple approached the mps to appeal for lower instalment payments, which yes the hdb allowed, but that would solve the issues at all. they still can't find a job that could sustain the livlihood and worst off...the biggest and wealthiest charity organisation, deprived them of their real needs.

the value of hdb had increased tremendously till it blasted in 97/98. however, the value of new hdb flats were not any cheaper, thus forcing the owners to sell their hdb flats at a higher price in order not to incur any losses.

during that period of 98/99/00, ask all those who purchased their flats thru hdb directly, they paid much more than those who bought in 2001/2002/2003. why???

when u make a loss over hdb purchase, the losses incurred will be cpf monies...how can pple retired then, if retirement funds was the concern of the govt?

over all these comments made here, i can really feel the unhappiness abt the govt. not becos they r inefficient, but the policies for addressing the real issues was never taken into serious considerations.

i also know many pple, frens and clients who come from all over the world come here to reside, get their pr or some even got their citizenship. they r here to make $$$ cos they can get more from here compared to their countries, especially in terms of currency exchange. however, almost 98% of them, i know, would not choose to retire here....y?

in fact, i would too..with given opportunity, i would rather leave and come back once a while for my favourite roti prata, char kway teow and nasi lemak.

People!!!!!!!!!!!!

starlandliu.blogspot.com or starlandliu as he is known by that alias is an PRODUCT of the Singapore Education System.

It is not his fault, the way he is presenting himself in the blogosphere world. He recites facts from textbook, reads national affairs. He does have references to reliable and accurate accounts of national and political affairs but they are only in one paradigm.

Singapore teaches the ROTE method of learning. That is regurgitating facts rather than use lateral thinking and think for yourself solutions. The education system
prevents and inhibits student to
ask questions, why? scared of losing
and getting it wrong. But getting
something wrong and learning it from
it is part of the learning process.

Although Singapore is moving towards the western model of education. The majority of high school graduates still can't grasp with the THINK OUT OF THE BOX concept until they go overseas like Australia, United States, United Kingdom, Canada.
These people will always try and refer to textbook case scenarios and never try anything that is unproven.

Singapore uses a high stake education system. If u succeed, winners take all, If u fail along the way, like don't make it to local Uni, then government dun give a fuck, it is ur problem. Then ur career and livelihood goes downhill unless u manage to break free from the strict elitest system.

That way, only a small pool of people can make it to uni, making the degree valuable. If everyone can have second chance, then singapore government will be forced to lower standards, degree worth less and people whinge about being jobless graduates.

Western countries like Australia is moving towards an elite system like Singapore. Cut funding to uni and allow private places to supplant govt places.

UK is moving in the opposite direction, Tony Blair wants everyone to have a uni degree, some people oppose say it devalues the degree.

*On the Pan-Island expressway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of kopi-o
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in Aljunied
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up her handphone
And she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel Singapura
Such a lovely place
For the 666
Plenty of room at the Hotel Singapura
Any time of year
RC volunteers
Her mind is PAP twisted
She's got the upgrading
She's got a lot of pretty, pretty boys
They're all geldings
How they dance in the courtyard
Sweet summer sweat
Some dance to fix you good
Some dance to buy your vote
So I called up the PAP
Please gimme transparency
He said
We haven't had that spirit here since 1965
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say
Welcome to the Hotel Singapura
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They're livin' it up at the Hotel Singapura
What a nice surprise
Bring your alibis
Cameras on the ceiling
Civil servants on ice
And she said
We are all just prisoners here
Of our own device
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To Sweden, where I was before
Relax, said the poodleman
We are programmed to fix you
You can hammer all you want
But you can never leave *

Pardon for my grammatical mistakes.

I am not siding with PAP nor opposition.

I dislike PAP about its education system which focusing too much on academic results than on civil moral values. This is what our education system fails to teaches a strong citizens with matured thinking. Need a mass changes on that.

Dominating and full authoritarian has its positive side. Do look more on its good than comdemned its bad side.

About many of you who blamed PAP for giving you low salary, didn't upgrade your old flat, put an high tax on you(Aussie is more higher) or using ERP to "steal" your money,

well, I felt that most of your opinions were just self centred.

The suggestions of yours, in my opinion, will completely destroy and cripple Singapore. As a Singaporean, it is important to FIRST spared a thought for the country and then SECOND to yourself.

Where has our One People One Nation One Singapore goes? Everyone just care about themselves, their salaries, their lives, their houses, their money, etc but really I can't found any political suggestions from you all except you mentioned "Let more opposition parties into Parliament" which is a healthy tips out.

Once again, always remember this: "Country above self"

If you really unhappy with PAP, well, be patient abit, give them 5 more years and see what happens in 2011 election.

starlandliu, australian taxation is some of the world's most complex. i suggest u try to understand how it work b4 commenting that its "high".

after-tax purchasing power is what counts in the end. alternatively, u can have "low" tax but jack up the real estate prices. its just indirect form of taxation.

suggest u read less straitstimes, asia1 or CNA. spewing out garbage like "other countries' tax r high" without understanding how it works makes u look like a country bumpkin. bumpkin that got brainwashed by PAP.

INVS 2.0 said...

You can address me and said "Australian is lower because...."

No need to said "bumpkin"

And instead of picking the tax point, you should also point out other concerns which is more important.

In fact about the tax, they are still higher because you have to give service tips. There is no doubt that Aussie people scolded us and Japanese for no giving them tips.

There taxes + money tips is already much more higher that ours.

be patient.... try telling that to someone like my father who has been voting for the past 40 years.
You're seeing things from your perspective, but try to see it from others. Sacrifice for the country is good and all, very noble in fact, but 'blind sacrifice' is just stupid. It is important to distinguish one thing, and it is that it is the people who make up the country, not the any one political party. If the people are not happy, they have more than enough reason to be concerned.

starlandliu,

u r going to do very badly in ur essays and assignments if u do go to university. u need to backup ur arguements with facts and show u've done more researched. approaching things from all angles.

here r the taxation rates in australia:

http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/12333.htm

ur homework is to gather the starting salary of graduates such as urself across major industries.

then use the tax calculator to figure out how much u have left after paying tax:

http://calculators.ato.gov.au/scripts/ASP/SimpleTaxCalc/main.asp

next research on housing and car prices in key cities such as sydney, melbourne, brisbane and perth.

u can then create a table and compare ur after-tax purchasing power between australia and singapore (pls use ratio in this excercise). it is simple mathematics, just use the 4 basic operations: plus, minus, divide, multiplication.

once u have the facts and figures, then u craft ur essays and arguements. it will help u in ur university work, should u choose to further ur studies.

u can also check out this 18 yr old's blog. her thought process is sound and she always backs up her point of view.

all the best in ur studies.

starlandliu,

work out the australian taxation after your exams. here are some other considerations you need to consider. retirement pension, unemployment benefits and medicare.

australian unemployment benefits:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrelink

australian medicare:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicare_(Australia)

local propaganda (PAP's blog - asia1, cna) might say: immigrate whatfor? high tax....yada..yada. But this is to discourage you from exploring more options.

also, despite unemployment benefits, most people still prefer to work. a person with a healthy positive attitude might feel embarassed to be seen as a regular at the unemployment office. the office is there in case you lose your job. in case it takes longer than expected for you to find a new job, at least the unemployment benefits is there to tide you and your family over.

just study hard for now. u can go places and u will go higher than u might think. gdluck starlandliu.

StarLandLiu, ComCare & other benefits were brought up only during an election. You cannot compare these to the unemployment benefits in western countries. Theirs have been in place for a long time. If you feel that you cannot relate to most of the posters here because of age gap then go to Gayle Goh's blog. She is probably 17 or 18 years old. http://i-speak.blogdrive.com/:

This letter was published in The Straits Times on Wed, 26 Jan 2005 entitled "Use vote to make life better for all".

22 January 2005

I refer to the article by Zuraidah Ibrahim entitled "Showing Govt's heart is no bad thing" in ST Jan 22, 2005.

Therein, she came to the conclusion that the government had "pulled the rug" from under the Workers' Party's feet on Jan 20 by unveiling a billion dollar package to help the older workers, the elderly and the jobless.

I would like to thank Zuraidah for acknowledging that the Workers' Party has consistently highlighted the plight of the poor and financially-strapped in our society and advocated for change of government policy in this area.

By coming up with the ComCare fund, the PAP has acknowledged that it has not been doing enough and that there are significant numbers who are unable to cope within the existing system.

The details of the implementation of ComCare, and how efficacious it will be in addressing the needs of the poor and the fall-out from economic restructuring, remain to be seen.

As a government, the PAP has an obligation to respond to the needs of the people, the voters.

What prompted me to respond is Zuraidah's speculation that somehow the Workers' Party would feel eclipsed at the next General Elections, since the PAP government has shown signs that it could "become more like the government Mr Low (Thia Khiang, WP Secretary-General) and the opposition would want it to be".

The Workers' Party is pro-Singapore and pro-Singaporeans.

If our existence and work has the effect of making the PAP government improve the lives of Singaporeans, we would have done our national service.

We do not find any morbid pleasure in seeing fellow Singaporeans continue to suffer under harsh policies so as to make political capital out of it.

How responsive the PAP would be to the electorate if there were no elections to fight is an interesting question.

The challenge facing Singapore in the democratisation process is how far the electorate recognises the value of holding the PAP to account through the ballot box.

Few Singaporeans would want to abolish the right to vote at a General Election, which means that Singaporeans must be prepared to join or support opposition parties, or risk their extinction in this difficult political environment.

The fundamental difference between those who believe in inter-party politics and those who want a one-party state is that the former do not wish to be held hostage to the Whip of one party, who will, in the final analysis, ensure that everyone falls into line.

Even though the PAP seems to be a dominant force in Singapore politics, Singaporeans should never under-estimate their own political power in using the vote to pressurise the government to review its policies so as to make life in Singapore better for all.

If the Workers' Party empowers the people in this way, our political participation would be time and effort well spent, and in no way "bitter-sweet".

Yours faithfully,

Sylvia Lim (Ms)
Chairman
The Workers' Party

Can starboy be educated? Some people are meant to crash into a wall no matter how you try to help. Nature is fair: Although the size of their brain has been compromised, they tend to have uber thick skulls. They also tend to be happy and contented. The bliss of ignorance. Sigh.

Starlandiu, you must understand that you have not faced with the full brunt of policies that have affected so many others under the dominant party. Oppositions are not 'troublemakers' as what they might have been made out to be by the media's coverage of the pap. Comments such as time bombs and dangerous manifesto planning and etc etc as what the straits times happily print out are bad publicity. It makes people agree blindly. Thus my advice to you to read up other sources of media. Think carefully, out of the comments you have read in this blog, why do people express their frustrations if the ruling party has at least met a certain level of service. Are thay that bo liao to just kao peh for fun? I work in the service line and out of all the people that I have met, many are very disgruntled with not the pap, but their policies. However when it comes to voting, the elder ones are usually worried to vote for opposition as they fear of being found out. Those who voted for the pap doesnt necessarily mean they are happy. They may be those who are ignorant about minor politics and since the pap's logo looks damn familiar, they vote for it. The opposition are the people that should be hailed as heroes as they have put a lot on the line by going against the ruling party. They have the guts to stand up for unhappy singaporeans. And i assure you that should anyone of them accidentally make an unfortunate mistake, the media is as sure to splash it all over the front page giving it a few days coverage. WIth the ruling party, it's a different ball game. By the way, you claim to come from a lower income group yet you have an amazing cam corder and laptop. Correct me if I am wrong but can a genuinely low income earner man even afford a trip to pizza hut? I wonder...

You see starlandiu, a really 'lower income' group cannot afford to spend 7 years savings fully or even partial of it into these luxury goods. Can a man with a family of 2, sole bread winner afford to spend 10 years of his hard earned savings on a family holiday? Noble it may be, to try and bring his family joy in travels, it simply cannot be done. You on the other hand can afford to put your savings into some luxury goods. It isn't a need, u should know that right? More of a want. Basic economics.

>>For haiz...

--Lower low income group cannot afford even handphones. However, for higher income group or mid income group does have the financial capability to buy more expensive goods such as computers and cameras.

>>For the rest.

--Please, once again, I say I am not siding with PAP. I felt that what real maturity is, look things on both side of the person.

You can't judged PAP as poor party just because there are negative sides. Try looking on its positive side and sprayed your conclusions.

Unless they are totally negatived.

As usual, you can't tell who is right and wrong until the day you become government yourself or join political parties.

Judging bad about government, the law, and the politics as an apolitical person and non-politician is equally absurb.

For example, pointing fingers at the PAP for corruption without knowing that you just received your workfare bonus cum Progress Package. If they corrupted, your PP + WFB will be confiscated.

Adults, stand only in their shoes but not for the country. The word of "Country above self", unfortunately failed to stamp into young generation mind concepts.

Selfish, unloyalty and ungrateful, is the reason behind a weak civil society.

Not PAP die, Singapore may die and if Singapore die, you die.

Country gone, people will suffer, do shot that into your mind.

Learn some moral values and before you dare even called youself an adult.

At least they PAP protected us from riots, civil wars and terrorist threats which gives you a safetly place to live.

Learn to appreciate life in Singapore.

Last but not least, those people who thinks that I am inmature - I do feel the same way for you too.

He is trying to make sense of Loyalty and Die for Singapore, so as to promote strong civil concepts which u guys lack of, but u said "Oh, those MP dun wan to protect Singapore, so I also dun wan to protect"?

Childish thinking liao...

At least Starliu participated actively in political discussion at age of 17, where are u during his age? Still dreaming or playing sex?

I read about Gayle Goh, she does make some sense but she fails appreciate the govt's efforts and look deep into politics. For starlandliu, his view may not as powerful as Gayle Goh but he is loyalty towards his country and shows interests in political affairs. He will be the one who is protecting your homeland! And for those people that are supposedly in malaysia.. with their nick.. as old what lim what pek what.. one.. i can say that i still want to live in SG because of one word that is hardly found in other countries.. security.. thats the only thing thats keeping me here..

and oh yeah from this person that is from malaysia and commented this passage.

I can tell u i love SG.. and i will glady protect SG from harm for the people i love and those that are closed to me.. its the government that must change.. we die also die for SG not for the government.

No matter what the Situation was different.. comparing the last time world which i live in at 17 and the time now that hes 17? Things change.. dun anyhow compare can?

hmmm and another one..

Your SG GE was over, no use fucking their heads and throwing rocks onto them. U ppl should work in hand with hand with the your govt to produce a stronger SG and challenge directly with other develop countries.

Everything that happen sure have its significance de.. GE to most SG ppl is a life impacting choice that they would have to make.. we would like to work hand with hand together with the government and also support them.. provided that they hear OUR PLEAS first.. if they turn a deaf ear to us and wishes us for us to support them and cooperate with them then tell me.. who doesnt want a better life? who doesnt want a stronger SG.. where our jobs.. will be stable.. income will be stable.. taxes and transportation costs will be more affordable for everyone.. where everyone supports the government and respect the government.. and a government that listens to their own ppl.. doing things that are in FAVOUR of the people and not for themselves.. who doesnt want that to happen?

But now.. the problem is.. does the government listen to the pleas of the people? u answer that.. yourself.. in your own heart..

Okay, I try commenting your post but no offensive.

--> However, as a result of the lack of opposition to keep their activities in check, there are fears that our government may go towards downfall.

<--Agreed here. Because of their 41 years of success, they became elegant or arrogant. They can sued whatever people they dislike, blocked suggestions from commoners and always stand in their party's shoes instead of sparing a thought for us, the people. However, on the positive point of this, they can carry out policies that really really benefits the country without opposing force. So, there is pros and cons of opposition ruling together with PAP.

--> If you studied chinese history and literature, you will know this scenario pretty well. First generation creates wealth (LKY), Second generation preserves it (LSL) and the Third generation spends it.

<-- Yes, that was true. However, ancient China was ruled over by imperial families and there was no election. Here in Singapore, we voters can at least use our votes to threatened them. Sounds fun but it is a healthy way to show our political concerns.

-->A small country like us cant afford to be complacent with ministers blurting out that they want to fix opposition and buy votes.

<--Hmmm... I do really dislike about how those "highly intelligent" minister treated us like fools. "Fix" is a word used by gangsters and shouldn't be used by "high class" government. They used Progress Package to buy votes but many people are very happy about this because they got money $$$ to enjoy. It is like this, politics is very dirty and unfair. If opposition uses money, they may even win the election(hope so).

-->We Singaporeans have a lot to be thankful for but God's fair.

<--Oh...credits to "Mr Chidlish Singaporeans" aka Malaysia Lim Peh to described his life in Malaysia as compared to Singapore. But thankfully for PAP to brings us out of this situation in the past days of 1964 and 1965 where we still have racial riots, unstability political and conflicts between our dear Lee Kuan Yew with Tunku.

-->Malaysia, I'm sure is improving under Mr Badawi's leadership.

<--Can I comment on Malaysia? Mr Old Lim Peh? I think Malaysia will catches up with the leading of Badawi. As you can see, Malaysia's politics and economics undergo much changes since he taken the PM position from Tun Mahathir a few years ago. And the relationship between Malaysia with Singapore has been repaired all thanks to him.

-->That takes time. Singapore on the other hand is almost at a plateau and if it drops, it would be horrible.

<--Let us hope that this will not be happen in Singapore. I guess that that LHL is a talented and opened person, sure he will still be able to lead us. He is different from LKY, his father. However, next election, it is wise to "invite" a few more opposition seats, just in case PAP downfall as you mentioned.

Standardliu,

you're idea of a one party leadership is all good, assuming that our leaders are saints who have the best interests of the people first in their hearts. However, look at the situation now and I cannot say with my hand to my heart that that is the case. Even if they're intentions are good, clearly they are out of touch with the plights of the common man. Rockson may not have put it so eloquently, but can all these elites who get the best benefits our system have to offer really identify with the majority of the ppl who don't? I come from a school where there is a clear distinction between the 'top' half and the rest who are treated as nothing less than junk. This is the reality of Singapore. Rather than say it is the people who have lost our morals, could that not happen to the government too? Remember, in ancient history, despite the autocratic power of the Chinese Emperors, there is still something known as the 'Mandate of Heaven'. An Emperor is only deemed fit to rule so much as he can keep his people happy. Otherwise the mandate passes on and the people are more than entitled to remove him. You see the govt preventing riots and civil unrest as a bonus to us, I tell you that it should be the least we expect of them.

As for sacrificing for your country, what makes you think all these people on here have not done their fare share? There is only so much you can give without expecting anything in return. Just take NS for example. All these older people have at least given 2 and half years of their lives in service to their country which is more than you can say for yourself. It's not your fault because you have not reached the age yet, but do not belittle that contribution we give. You like to claim that all these older people are immature or whatever, but they have seen more of the world than you have and I believe certainly have already examined both sides of the coin b4 expressing their feelings here. When it comes to the crunch and a war comes or something, it is these people who will be fighting for the country at the frontline, not your ministers. Sad to say this, but alot of scholars i know, the very type of people who will go on to be key figures in Singapore, do not quite share the same patriotic zeal as you Standard and would take the first chance to leave Singapore given the chance. You say that we should go and try to become politicians, but do you really think the selection system here is really based on meritocracy? Can anyone get into parliament just like tat? Historically, Guan Zhong was a failed businessman and war deserter born into a poor family who was appointed a statesman because of his talent. You think that is possible in Singapore given our political system? Srry but over here a piece of paper and your connections and status is all that distinguishes your worth.

As for Mr Malaysia,
Dun really think you have the right to comment on what is going on here in Singapore. Mebbe in Malaysia you're accustomed to blindly taking wat is fed to you by a bumiputra govt, but here we like to believe that our lives are in our hands. If you're happy with the status quo over there, fair enough. Over here, we ARE the country and have given much into it. At 18, many of us were wearing green uniforms, holding rifles and marching all day. What were you doing? Playing nintendo at home? Going to a uni and picking up girls? Sorry but we do not have that kind of luxury. Unlike how it is over in your country, we have to actually gurantee our own existence.

Are you trully loyal to your country? Do you even understand what the term means? Loyalty does not mean blind obedience. It means taking a stand when you see things going wrong for the sake of the country. Just because things are a bitch should not mean we have to lie down and accept it. Like tat, nothing will ever change. If you want to compare with a third world country, then you might as well go over there and do charity work to eleviate their suffering. You know what Lim Peh tell you? Lim Peh tell you that he who lives in glass houses should not throw stones.

Before anyone dare slandering Lim Peh back, think about your national pledge and ask yourself, towards and inwards your heart, as a Singaporean.

Let me tell u SGs, your PAP is ruling Singapore very well. By kicing them down is NOT loyalty to SG, if they die, the whole SG might just collasped. Loyalty is: Willing to stand up for SG in terms of economy downfall, political unstability. Willing to die for SG when Lim Peh invade Singapore one day. And lastly, willing to sing SG national anthem, loud and clear.

And kindly excuses Lim Peh's english mistakes as I am nt good in this area(M'sia only teaches us Malay in my schooling days).

The PAP is not Singapore and well as they have done so far for us, we can always hope and strive for better. Just as the sky's not the limit, so too is the PAP not the limit for Singapore.

http://singaporeelection.blogspot.com/2006/05/singapore-ministers-pay-legitimised.html

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post, "Inequality, Again," that reflected upon the large and growing gap between the incomes of the richest US CEOs and the average worker, using Mencius and the Tao Te Ching as points of reference. Well, it seems that I should have included the Prime Minister of Singapore, and his band of merry, grossly overpaid, ministers in the ranks of the most greedy and grasping of global fat cats. Here's a news item from Singapore Election Watch today, May 1st, international workers day:

The below table puts things back in proper perspective: (these are basic figures as of July 2000 and did not include last year's pay hikes or other benefits. Otherwise the updated numbers may well be much larger)

1. Singapore President's Basic Salary US$1,483,000 (SGD$2,373,100)*a year Singapore Prime Minister's Basic Salary US$1,100,000 (SGD1,958,000) a year

Minister's Basic: US$655,530 to US$819,124 (SGD1,166,844 to SGD1,458,040) a year

2. United States of America President: US$200,000 Vice President: US$181,400 Cabinet Secretaries: US$157,000

3. United Kingdom Prime Minister: US$170,556 Ministers: US$146,299 Senior Civil Servants: US$262,438

4. Australia Prime Minister: US$137,060 Deputy Prime Minister: US$111,439 Treasurer: US$102,682

5. Hong Kong Chief Executive : US$416,615 Top Civil Servant: US$278,538 Financial Sec: US$315,077

Source: Asian Wall Street Journal July 10 2000 *Singapore President's salary which was updated in 2005 from the Singapore Straits Times

In relative terms, less then 20% of Singaporeans here have take home salaries exceeding SGD100,000/- A YEAR.

In stark contrast, BASIC SALARY FOR A MINISTER STARTS AT SGD1,166,844 A YEAR,OR JUST UNDER SGD100,000 A MONTH.

What these ministers earns in just ONE MONTH exceeds the ANNUAL TAKE HOME salary of 80% of Singapore's income earning population. Lets not even begin to compare annual packages which will exceed SGD1 million easily.

The unjustifiable over-compensation of PAP power-holders is another reminder of the corruption of the political system. They rationalize their riches in business terms: they are CEOs receiving the "industry standard" for excellent performance in high-stakes, high-stress jobs. But this is just so much fancy talk. Their overblown pay is really the result of their monopoly on power. Not only are they the judge and jury for the compliant judiciary, but they are also their own paymasters, effortlessly spooning funds from the public treasury into their own personal bank accounts. Let's cut through the business school rhetoric and see their self-interested materialism for what it is, as this Singaporean does:

A 29 yr old executive who requested to remain anonymous admitted sheepishly ; "The numbers (ministerial salaries) are a national embarrassment really, because it reflects the underlying materialistic value systems of Singapore Ministers. No matter how you look at it, the fact remains that our ministers are money faced, and these are supposed to be Singapore's leaders, with value systems that Singaporeans should follow." "It (the ministerial salaries) puts Singapore in a bad light in the eyes of the world. The rest of Singaporeans really put in an honest days work for every penny they earn. And the process for review and approval of the ministerial salaries is also a joke. Imagine sitting on the board and approving (on White Paper)your own salary increments! Its all a wayang show".

All of this is yet another indication of how far PAP reality is from the Confucian ideals they sometimes invoke. Mencius, for example, would certainly advise them to drastically cut their salaries:

"There's plenty of juicy meat in your kitchen and plenty of well-fed horses in your stable," continued Mencius, "but the people here look hungry, and in the countryside they're starving to death. You're feeding humans to animals. Everyone hates to see animals eat each other, and an emperor is the people's father and mother - but if his government feeds humans to animals, how can he claim to the people's father and mother?" (7)

People are not starving in the streets in Singapore. But inequality is obviously stark and exorbitant PAP salaries, and the perquisites they bring, are the modern equivalent of "feeding humans to animals," as suggested in this report on a massive Worker's Party rally by Yawning Bread:

Soon after, Sylvia Lim, the Chairperson of the Workers Party, took the stage and spoke in English. For the next 10 minutes, she dealt with just one topic, hammering the point home. She spoke about rising healthcare costs, and how, instead of thinking of ways to help people, the government was thinking of ways to limit the use of subsidies.

Even if you're prepared to put up with C class wards (the lowest of three categories of comfort), she said, you might not get C class. The government has already indicated that they would implement means-testing. Only the truly needy would get C class, she told the crowd.

Then she went on a bit about the various ways of means-testing, and how no way is truly fair, before coming back to the point that the People's Action Party (PAP) government really isn't in sync with the people's concerns.

The PAP lives large, while making life more difficult for people on the bottom of the socio-economic heap.

I know how the PAP would respond: Singapore was a poor place in 1965; we managed economic development that improved the living standards of most Singaporeans; our authoritarianism is necessary to provide basic needs to the people. And the response, from the 2006 perspective is this: it's 2006! The "Singapore was poor" argument faded into irrelevance at least 15 years ago. The current elections are not about 1990 or 1980, they're about 2006. And in 2006 the PAP has hardened into a sclerotic, corrupt power structure that is used to transfer wealth from average workers to the authoritarian elite.

The Tao Te Ching gets at the underlying problem nicely:

Understanding sparse and sparser still I travel the great Way, nothing to fear unless I stray.

The great Way is open and smooth, but people adore twisty paths: Government in ruins, fields overgrown, and granaries bare, they indulge in elegant robes and sharp swords, lavish food and drink, all those trappings of luxury.

It's vainglorious thievery - not the Way, not the Way at all. (passage 53)

The PAP is not about "Asian values" or "Confucian virtues." It is about a leadership that adores "twisty paths." It's about old-fashioned human greed. PAP leaders do not lead by example, they do not practice what they preach; they are not following Confucian principles and are not in keeping with Way.

So, here are some campaign slogans we can use:

PAP: Feeding Humans to Animals!

PAP: Vainglorious Thievery!

Is this genetic or something?

Said Lee Kuan Yew: "If I were arrogant, would I be talking to you?" (In response to a journalist's comment on My Vote, saying that some people feel him to be arrogant).

I must give him all respect for this undefeatable statement. It is truly a dumbfounding, mind-boggling, flabbergasting masterpiece of rhetoric to which there is no intuitive reply. It is a statement that presupposes his superior status, and confers a notion of graciousness and humility upon the very fact that he would consent to have free and direct dialogue with young Singaporeans. Here I am talking to lower lifeforms. Obviously I can't be arrogant.

Said Lee Hsien Loong: "If I weren't taking this seriously, would I be here?" (Broadcasted on News 5 Tonight, said to TV cameras while walking the grounds.)

A statement almost worthy of his father's finesse -- his very presence gracing our midst is proof enough that he is concerned and serious about the contest to win our hearts and our votes. The supreme high chancellor himself has deigned to kiss my baby, oh my god he must really care!

Our government are trying to help the lower income group, which is probably about 2 to 5% of the population, the government is using it as propaganda to show the government is doing a great job and care for the people. The worst is the midddle income, consisting of the majority, for this lot of people, the government is not helping them, instead regulating the high costs of living for them to catch up, either they die of worrying at the end of the day; or join the 5% at the end of the day; few of them might be just lucky that make it to join the rich ( could be touch 4D). This is why our society is so pressurised. the rich is controling the middle class with the help of government for economic reasons and the poor is the tools for the work of the government. Everyone wants a government to take care of all the people, but in reality is not possible. Do you think one day if we have all the grey hair people all over the street the government will look after them ... I dare not think what would happen when the time come. For those who have strong heart shall live and for those who have weak heart go to hell... Hahahah this is because of absent of a good welfare system to cater for the old people instead we are pushing the old to work till they die. You would notice that those who said wish to work through the old age are those low income group, why ? not enough money to do what they want to do - go travelling or buy 4D or maybe for the high medical fee.

Convoluted postings! To sum up, we are all very lucky bunch to live in Singapore. Mr Yeo Cheow Tong just mentioned in the papers today that the fare hikes that everyone is ranting about are fair, and that we have to "have a sense of what is necessary" (something which many people around here don't possess). We should be thankful that we face fare hikes of ONLY 1 to 2 cents annually, and that this is something we are not going to find anywhere in the world. I am so happy that we are only facing such low fare hikes. REMEMBER IT COULD BE WORSE.
Our ministers are always the whipping boys when things go wrong; poor Mr Yeo also spoke about the kind of sacrifices he made ("My three girls have virtually grown up without me"). I am really impressed by his dedication to his work, and this gives us further insight with regards to justifying high salaries for the ministers- their job is really tough. Mr Yeo for example is so exhausted after all these years of hard work that he told his daughter, "I am not going to wake up for you every morning" to drive her to school.

Moreover the government is always prepared to make tough decisions when the need arises, and explains those policies and measures very thoroughly. This I am perfectly satisfied as it's all clean and honest, and there's no hiding of the truth.

Such openness is even more remarkable if you compare with countries like North Korea of even Vietnam where the decision makers don't even bother to give the wishes of their people due attention.

Lastly, with such a world class education that produced top students, we ought to count our blessings that this system is sustaining us and not suffocating us like what some people over here are suggesting.

About the transport fare hikes -- It is not because of 1, 2 cents hike, but whether it is justified. The present fares are high.

The public transport should be delisted from the bourse and run as a non-profit organization, because the management always use the excuse that the interest of the share holders have to be taken care of. And a large portion of the profits is therefore sucked by the latters.

More fare hikes mean more profits, more profits mean bigger year-end bonus. Therefore the year-end bonus for the management staff should not be tied to the profits of the public transport companies but to the standard of service they provide.

Interesting, does anyone of you know our highly paid minister go for a pee during working hours, how much it costs the tax payer? Hahaha,

When Mr. Yeo told you his sad story, you become sympathetic, just like the NKF's show on TV for donation, everybody heart soft and give money. Now, many people talk about public transpot fare hikes, to Mr. Yeo is a small matter. Do you know how many people out there earn very much less than Mr.Yeo who also suffer the same fate, worse still, some don't even have a maids to looks after their children. Who these people are to tell you their stories, they are just layman who cares. Don't believe, just turn and look at our hawkers.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Yeo is lucky he can now see his daughter every morning. For some they have to wait untill their daughter grown up and put a blame on them.

Anonymous said...

People must realise that is not the matter of 1 or 2 cents of the public transport fare hikes, but other items be it food, drinks and goods will follow suit and increase the price, some even take it as an opportunity to increase more on their sale price. Sad thing our people do not unstand this phenomenon.

Anonymous said...

prepare $ from progress package to pay for higher transport cost, start to return the $ from progress package.

Anonymous said...

When public transport fare hikes are approved, the general market takes it as an indicator/excuse that it is time for price hikes.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I'm fully against listing of Public Transports & Utilities.
In fact there are many essentials that shouldn't be listed or at the least better regulated,eg:
1. Crude Oil & its derivatives- WTO should curb the speculative demand that resulted in the current very high price. The combined profit of more than US$120 billion last year for the top 5 oil companies alone is really obscene. These have not even include the oil producers, speculators, brokers, etc. Since Oil is becoming more and more like water & oxygen, which are basic necessities, its price must be regulated to rid it of the numerous speculative add-on costs.
2. Medical drugs - Why can't we put all research scientists & patent rights under WHO, reward those scientists directly for inventions and not the pharmaceutical companies & its shareholders. These drug companies should only be engaged as contract manufacturers by WHO to rid extravagance add-on costs and high profits.
We, the humanoids, should not pay such high price to enrich a handful of guiltless (devilish) assholes and put our basic needs and the survival of the millions of poor in their "hands of evil".

Oh! we'll still a 3rd world country without PAP???
I'm certain we will not be very far behind even without them all these years!!!
Singapore, being a very strategic location (dragon's pearl), is the most important parameter of our success.
As long as we continue to maintain stabilty, uphold education & remains open-minded to attract foreign business & travellers, we will be ok.

Only PAP can be bring Singaporeans integrated resorts, bring in money, tourist and create jobs.

If the opposition were in government, they will be arguing with themselves about the social ills of gambling and will be deadlocked in analysis paralysis without any decisions.

Long live the PAP and its million dollar peanut makers. long live ah pek Lee and young lee.

2) why $400,000 was spent to think of a name "Marina Bay" and we concluded the new name of Marina Bay as "Marina Bay"

3) why $200,000 was spent on how to name "Budget Terminal" Budget Terminal...
